Eric Shahinian is a graduate of the Columbia University Film MFA program, where he completed his studies with Honors in Screenwriting. His short film "Foreign Sounds" won the Grand Prize for Best Student Film at the 2015 Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival. His short film "Justine" about a transgender teenager, was selected to air on PBS in Rhode Island. His most recent short film "Head Above Water" has screened in over forty international film festivals and won the Golden Apricot Award for Best Short Film from the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival.
His feature script "Off Peak" was selected as a Semi-Finalist in the 2017 Scriptapalooza Screenplay Competition and his LGBT TV Pilot was selected as a Finalist in the Oaxaca Film Festival and Quarterfinalist in the Script Pipeline and Finish Line screenplay competitions.
He enjoys writing slice-of-life, intimate interpersonal stories about flawed, complex characters. He is currently developing his first feature film exploring family, identity, shame and transformation.
